Treatment is an important step on the road to recovery after an injury or an accident. CHW Assessment Services offers a variety of treatment services to aid in this recovery process. Choosing the right type of treatment can be difficult, and we work closely with our clients to ensure they are receiving the care they require.

We provide a wide range of treatment services to suit our clients’ needs.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS

Our trained occupational therapists have experience treating clients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and a wide range of other complex impairments. Treatment includes allowing increased participation in resuming daily activities and recommending assistive devices and home modifications. Our occupational therapists are equipped with the latest assessment tools for objective evaluation of injuries and care. They are proficient with developing treatment plans for improving function.

CASE MANAGERS

Case managers can provide rehabilitation counselling to both the client and their family and act as a liaison for the insurer. They are a great asset to ensure effective communication between all members of the rehabilitation team and expedite difficult processes.

COGNITIVE

We use standardized tests to assess attention, memory, organization, vision, executive skills, behaviour, and other cognitive functions. These assessments are valuable for assessing the client’s long-term needs.

PGAP CERTIFIED OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS

We work with PGAP (Progressive Goal Attainment Program) certified therapists to assist clients with chronic health conditions, such as pain and depression. These therapists work to reduce the disability associated with these conditions to help the individual to resume their daily routine.

REHABILITATION SUPPORT WORKERS (RSW)

Our Rehabilitation Support Workers (RSW) have extensive experience in treating clients with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other impairments. Our RSWs come from a variety of fields to provide treatment for individuals with unique needs.

Treatment is provided by therapists trained in:

  • Behavioural and anger management
  • Mindfulness-based stress reduction
  • Cognitive remediation and compensation strategy
  • Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
  • Aquatics
  • Personal training
  • Kinesiology

IN-HOME AND COMMUNITY NEURO-PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

Our neuro-physiotherapists are available in the community and in-home. They assess and treat clients in regards to sensation, muscle tone, coordination, movement, balance, strength, gait, and endurance. The physiotherapist can work to create and develop an exercise program for the client. The RSWs can then supervise the exercise and work further with the client.

SOCIAL WORKERS

Dealing with injuries and impairments can take a powerful emotional toll. Our registered social workers are skilled at supporting clients and their families in their emotional reaction to the trauma associated with injuries. They can can provide in-depth assessments of the client’s emotional and social states, as well as the client’s ability to cope with their impairments. They can also assist in creating and developing coping strategies.

DRIVER REHABILITATION – “ROAD TO RECOVERY”

Driver rehabilitation treatment is provided by a qualified occupational therapist with additional training in driving rehabilitation. Treatment includes the use of a driving simulator and cognitive remediation therapy to assist in giving the client comfort and confidence.

READINESS TO RETURN TO WORK

Our qualified occupational therapists can assess the client’s current functional abilities as they relate to his/her essential work duties at the workplace. The occupational therapist can develop a plan in collaboration with the client and the employer for returning to work. This plan often begins with a volunteer placement that gradually develops to a full return to work.

DRIVING ASSESSMENTS (ROAD TO RECOVERY)

We provide driving assessments for clients with physical or cognitive impairments. This assessment is both in-clinic and in-car for a well-rounded evaluation. It is conducted by an occupational therapist trained in driving assessment and rehabilitation as well as a certified driving instructor.

DRIVING ANXIETY DESENSITIZATION PROGRAM

This program is led by a clinical psychologist who works closely with the client’s occupational therapist and rehabilitation support worker to treat driving anxiety. This team of workers employs a cognitive-behavioural and desensitization approach to treatment to help the client treat their anxiety.

IN-HOME MASSAGE THERAPISTS

We work with a team of registered massage therapists to treat a variety of conditions. They are trained and specialize in orthopedic injuries and chronic pain and can work with the client to help with their chronic conditions.
